Buck Toll Hike on Del. Memorial Bridge?

Authorities have proposed raising tolls on the Delaware Memorial Bridge to avert a budget crisis.

Victor Ferzetti, chief financial officer of the Delaware River and Bay Authority, says the pay hike will protect the agency's bond rating and raise money to cover capital improvement costs. Tolls would go up by $1 for passenger vehicles, and by $1 per axle for commercial trucks.

The authority's board, which will have final say on the rate increase, plans to hold two public hearings on the proposal.

The first hearing is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Vincent A. Julia Center adjacent to the bridge's toll plaza in New Castle. The second is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Salem Community College Davidow Performing Arts Theatre in Davidow Hall, in Carneys Point Township, N.J.
