Delaware Man Arrested on 7th DUI After Crashing into School Bus, Passing Out

A Delaware man was arrested for his seventh DUI after he crashed into a parked school bus and passed out, police said.

The bizarre incident happened about 10:10 a.m. Thursday at the First Student Transportation bus yard located in Newark.

When Delaware State Police Troopers arrived, they say they found 57-year-old John R. Owens passed out behind the wheel of a Dodge Caliber.

Investigators say Owens entered the lot, struck the rear of a school bus that was parked in the lot and then exited.

Owens, police say, then re-entered the bus lot and struck a chain link fence before passing out in the car.

Owens was removed from the car by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital for evaluation. He was not injured in the crash.

Owens has been charged with DUI, Driving while Suspended and No Valid Proof of Insurance. Police say it is his seventh DUI offense.
