Delaware Firefighter, Paramedic Hurt Battling Apartment Complex Blaze

Less than 24 hours after a deadly fire tore through a Delaware apartment building, a blaze broke out at another New Castle County apartment complex this time leaving three people hurt.

Sunday night’s fire on Butternut Court at the Valley Run Apartments in Claymont around 9:30 p.m. left 12 people from six separate families out of their homes and three people hurt.

A 79-year-old resident was taken to the hospital with a back injury she got while evacuating her apartment. A firefighter got a head injury while suppressing the fire, and a paramedic got an ankle injury while working at the scene. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

The American Red Cross helped the families forced out of their homes by the blaze.

The cause of the fire, which caused a portion of the building to collapse, remained under investigation Monday morning.

This blaze came just hours after a deadly blaze at the Harbor House Apartments — just a few miles away — left one dead and two hurt.
