Del. Liquor Executive Sentenced for Illegal Finance Scheme

Christopher Tigani admitted to distributing illegal campaign contributions

A Delaware liquor industry executive who pleaded guilty in an illegal campaign finance scheme will begin serving a two-year sentence next week.

A federal judge on Thursday refused to delay the start of Christopher Tigani's sentence for two weeks while Tigani appealed his prison assignment.

The judge had recommended that Tigani be sent to a medium-security prison in southern New Jersey, but the Bureau of Prisons has assigned Tigani to a detention facility in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Tigani's attorney argued that sending him to Brooklyn will make it more difficult for his two sons to visit him and asked for time to challenge the BOP's decision.

Tigani admitted using his family's distributing company to bundle illegal campaign contributions to state and federal candidates, including Vice President Joe Biden's 2008 presidential campaign.
