Del. Has 1st Human Case of West Nile Virus in 2011

A 71-year-old Del. man is hospitalized with West Nile virus.

Public health officials say the first human case of West Nile virus in the state this year has been identified.

The Division of Public Health says the case was reported in a 71-year-old New Castle County man.

The patient has underlying health conditions and is hospitalized.

West Nile virus is transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Humans infected with West Nile virus often have symptoms similar to a mild flu.
