UDel Cop Harasses Student: Police

A University of Delaware police officer is accused of harassing a female student who had ended a relationship with him

A University of Delaware Police officer harassed a female student who ended a relationship with him, through text messages, e-mails and voicemails, according to the Newark Police Department.

Demetrius Sharp, 31, of Kennett Square, Pa. was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with harassment and official misconduct.

In a press release, police tell NBC10 an investigation began in February when a 21-year-old student at the University of Delaware told investigators Sharp not only left her harassing messages, but he tried to contact her in person while on duty as a uniformed officer. Police say Sharp parked outside the student's home and shined a spotlight from his patrol vehicle into her window.

Sharpe, who is on administrative leave, turned himself in to police on Wednesday. He was released on $4,000 bond.
