Del. 9-Year-Old Abducted, Raped

Young girl accepted a ride from a stranger who raped her before she could run away

A 9-year-old Alban Park girl accepted a ride from a stranger when she was accidentally locked out of her home. The man raped her before she could get out of the car.

The young girl was dropped off at her 500-block of Homestead Road address by a family friend. She walked into her building but when she was unable to get inside her door, she walked back outside to look for her sister and parents, police say.

While walking along Alban Drive near the Canby Park Shopping Center, a man described as an Asian or Hispanic male with short black hair offered her a ride. After some conversation the child accepted the ride, police say.

The man drove to an undisclosed location in Wilmington, parked the car, and raped the 9-year-old before she was able to get out and run, according to New Castle Police Cpl. Trinidad Navarro.

A Good Samaritan found the girl walking and brought her to a convenience store nearby. The girl was able to call her family, who picked her up at the store and brought her home, police say.

When the girl got home she told her mother what had happened. The girl’s mother called 911.
