“Death Race” Trooper Gets Probation

A judge has sentenced a New Jersey state trooper who led a so-called "death race" -- a caravan of sports cars that traveled at more than 100 mph -- along the Garden State Expressway to Atlantic City to one year of probation.

The judge on Monday also ordered Sgt. First Class Nadir Nassry to perform 75 hours of community service.

The 48-year-old Phillipsburg resident forfeited his job when he pleaded guilty to falsifying or tampering with records.

The 26-year veteran admitted using tape to change the license plate of his patrol vehicle to conceal his participation in last year's convoy, which reached speeds of 100 mph.

Another trooper who assisted has also forfeited his job and is awaiting enrollment in a program that could clear his guilty plea to record tampering.

The escort down the Garden State Parkway at speeds believed at times to be in excess of 100 mph made national headlines after one motorist who was passed by the Lamborghinis, Ferraris and other expensive, exotic cars described it as "Death Race 2012."
