Man Accused of Shooting, Killing Roommate in Audubon, New Jersey Home

A man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his roommate inside their southern New Jersey apartment.

William Clark III, 50, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 51-year-old Steven Johnston of Audubon, New Jersey.

Clark called 911 around 2:55 a.m. Saturday and told the operator he killed Johnston by shooting him in the head at an apartment on the 400 block of South White Horse Pike in Audubon, according to investigators.

Officers arrived minutes later and took Clark into custody without incident. They later found Johnston's body in a third-floor apartment. He was dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Clark allegedly told police Johnston was his roommate and they were having a conversation inside their apartment. Clark said he became upset and then shot Johnston, according to investigators.

Clark is being held at the Camden County Jail on $500,000 bail.
