Delaware State Police said a woman who jumped from a truck her husband was driving was struck and killed by the vehicle.
It happened about 1:05 a.m. Thursday on South DuPont Boulevard (U.S. Route 13) and Holly Hill Drive near Smyrna. Troopers said 46-year-old Michael Whitley of Smyrna was driving the box truck south and preparing to turn left.
Police said Whitley's wife, 43-year-old Evelyn Whitley, jumped out the passenger's side door. Authorities said she fell to the ground and was struck by the truck's right rear dual wheels.
Medics pronounced Evelyn Whitley dead at the scene.
The incident remained under investigation as the road remained closed for nearly four hours, said police.
