A Northeast Philadelphia man died as fire tore through his Summerdale neighborhood home overnight.
The man's 79-year-old father and a firefighter were hurt in the fire at a duplex along the 900 block of Foulkrod Street early Monday.
Firefighters rescued the 80-year-old from the home but didn’t get to his son in time. The man who survived the blaze has what Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel called “pretty serious injuries.”
The elderly man's son, Eric Olsen, said he has a strong family that will "pull together" as they mourn his brother.
Neighbor Chuyin Robson described the deceased man as a good neighbor who would help shovel snow.
It took about 50 firefighters around 45 minutes to put the fire out, Thiel said. One firefighter was treated at the scene after being hit by debris, firefighters said.

Crews boarded up the damaged home during the day Monday. The fire marshal will determine the cause of the fire.
