Dead Dog Found Burning on Chester Co Road

The Chester County SPCA is investigating the incident.

The Chester County SPCA is investigating the discovery of a dead dog found burning on the side of a Chester County road Friday night.

Officials say a fire was spotted near the intersection of Route 82 and Route 340 in Coatesville.

When fire crews put out the blaze, they discovered a dead dog inside a crate.

The Chester County SPCA was called to the scene and are leading the investigation.

"This is a despicable act of animal cruelty, we want to get the person or persons responsible off the street that would do this kind of act to a defenseless animal," Rich Britton of the SPCA told NBC10.

It is unknown what breed the dog was.

Chester County SPCA officials say the dog will be taken to the New Bolton Veterinary Center in Kennett Square for a necropsy on Monday.
