Troopers Discover Animals, Both Dead and Alive, Inside Filthy Chester County Home

Investigators called the conditions of the home among the worst they had ever seen.

A welfare check on two children playing in the street led to the discovery of dead animals and deplorable conditions at a Chester County home.

On Tuesday, shortly before 10:30 p.m., Pennsylvania State Troopers were called to the 100 block of Street Road in Upper Oxford Township for a welfare check. Investigators said they found two children with black eyes playing in the street.

Police obtained a warrant and searched through the property Wednesday morning. They then discovered several animals, both dead and alive, inside and outside the home.

Three cats, six kittens, one pig, eight dogs, one snake, one tarantula and one bearded dragon were found alive and taken from the home.

Officials also found two dead rabbits, two dead dogs inside separate decaying totes, a dead chicken, and a dead pig weighing approximately 200 pounds. They also said other animals were buried throughout the property.

Investigators continue to search for a missing python inside the house.

Officers were also spotted carrying 12 rifles and eight handguns from the home on Wednesday.

Police called the conditions of the home among the worst they had ever seen. Officials discovered four inches of sewage in the basement as well as maggots, flies, fleas, feces and urine throughout the property. Investigators are currently working with the health department to have the home condemned.

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues. In addition to animal cruelty, police are also investigating possible child abuse at the home.
