Dance Seen Round the World: “Thriller” in NoLibs

Dozens of Philadelphians in full “Thriller” costume swarmed Piazza at Schmidt’s last Saturday to dance the famous Michael Jackson routine at the same time as tens of thousands around the world.

Just in time for Halloween, the zombie dancers climbed onto the outdoor stage in Northern Liberties en masse, surprising the people standing by. In the pouring rain, the group mimicked every move from the famous 1982 video.

With the goal of being the world’s largest simultaneous dance of Jackson’s “Thriller,” this underground project, of which the word spread seemingly through blogs, involved people in 32 countries dancing at the exact same time Oct. 24.

Our Philadelphian sect braved driving rain to complete the well-executed, choreographed plan.

According to writers on Thrill the World blog, approximately 23,000 people participated worldwide. More than 30 of those “King of Pop” inspired zombies were these rain-soaked, proud Philadelphians:
