A father of two toddlers was severely beaten outside a Southwest Philadelphia strip club Friday night. Three men, including the club’s owner are charged with attempted murder.

James Koons, 31, is in critical condition after nearly being beaten to death by Oasis Gentleman’s Club owner Robert Laflar, 43, of Oreland; club manager Brandan Davis, 32, of Oreland; and club bouncer John Pettit, 48, of Pennsauken, said police.

Koons and his friend George Foreacre, both of Delaware County, were kicked out of the strip club for being rowdy Friday night, said police. When Koons realized that he left his credit card inside, he returned to the Essington Avenue club get it.

Koons was confronted by the bouncer and manager when he was trying to get back into the club, when owner Laflar pulled up, said Philadelphia police Lt. John Walker. The three beat Koons so badly that he was on the ground unconscious with severe head injuries, said Walker.

In addition to the attempted murder and aggravated assault charges, all three men have been charged with obstructing justice and tampering with evidence because they were caught dismantling the extensive video recording system at Oasis, said police.
