On Monday shortly after 3 p.m., police were called to a home on the 100 block of Branch Street in Medford Township. When they arrived they say they found a 45-year-old man in a wheelchair experiencing chest pains.

The victim told police his son Tyler Medina, 18, had locked him inside a bathroom for 45 minutes. Medina allegedly removed his father’s cell phone and medical alert bracelet so that the man could not call for help. Medina also allegedly refused to call for medical attention until he was allowed to use his father’s car. Police say he finally called for medical assistance after his father gave him his car keys.

As officers informed Medina he was under arrest and began to handcuff him, Medina allegedly resisted and tried to run away. Officers briefly struggled with Medina and pepper sprayed him before finally arresting him, according to investigators. No officers were injured.

Medina’s father was taken to Virtua Memorial Hospital Mount Holly and treated for cardiac related issues. Medina himself was treated and released at the hospital for pepper spray exposure.

Medina is charged with resisting arrest, criminal restraint, neglect of a disabled person, theft and harassment. He was committed to Burlington County Jail with bail set at $300,000 full cash.
