“Very Intoxicated” Driver Hits Cop Car: Police

Gloucester Township patrolman's vehicle is allegedly sideswiped with him inside

An alleged “very intoxicated” driver struck a cop car in Camden County Wednesday evening while the patrolman conducted an investigation on the side of the road.

Gloucester Township Police say Arnold Lyles, 42, was under the influence when he sideswiped Ptl. Anthony Massi’s marked police vehicle while it was pulled entirely onto the shoulder of Sicklerville Road near Jarvis Road.

Police say the Sicklerville, N.J. struck Massi’s police vehicle with his 2005 Nissan Pathfinder around 5:15 p.m. despite the officer’s lights being on with the officer inside.

The Pathfinder stopped after the crash and the Lyles was found to be “very intoxicated,” police said.

Neither Ptl. Massi nor Lyles was hurt. But Lyles was charged with DUI and released
