It happened Monday around 12:30 a.m., according to investigators.

Police arrested a woman who they say ran a red light and injured a police officer in Hamilton Township.

It happened Monday around 12:30 a.m., according to investigators. Police say Krystal Cruz of Bethlehem was driving southbound on CR 575 when she failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with US Route 40. Her vehicle collided with a Hamilton Township Police car that was traveling westbound on Route 40, according to investigators. Officials say the crash caused the police car to run into the center median where it knocked down a pole supporting two traffic lights.

The driver of the police car, Officer Belford Rivera, was taken to Atlanticare where he was treated for his injuries and is currently in stable condition. Cruz was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving and Failure to Observe a Traffic Signal. Cruz and her passenger were not hurt in the crash.

The westbound lane of US Rt. 40 and the travel lane of southbound CR 575 will remain closed until the traffic light post is removed from the roadway.
