Street Facing Federal Investigation: Report

Federal investigators are looking into the actions of former Mayor John F. Street when he served as the chairman for the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Philly.com reported.

An official with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said that Street had a conflict of interest when he voted in favor of PHA contracts with a company that his son worked for.

According to Philly.com, Sharif Street billed PHA for $778,000 while working for the law firm Wolf, Block, Schorr, and Solis Coehn.  The law firm earned millions through the PHA contracts, the report says.

The existence of an investigation does not mean that charges will be brought.

The law firm Wolf Block dissolved in 2009, and Sharif Street now practices law with another firm.
