DA: Man Shot by Police Trying to Commit Him

Police say a man in suburban Philadelphia was shot by borough police trying to take him into custody to be committed for mental health treatment.

District Attorney David Heckler told the Bucks County Courier Times that the New Hope officers were serving an involuntary mental health commitment shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday.
 
Police said the unidentified man was shot once in the torso and taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown, where his condition was not immediately available.
 
Police chief Michael Cummings said Bucks County detectives are investigating. He said no officers were injured.
