Customer, Security Guards Stop Would-Be Robber

Authorities say a would-be robber who attacked an elderly man outside a southern New Jersey bank was captured after another elderly man and two bank security guards came to the victim's aid.

Atlantic City police say 20-year-old Calvin Wiggins faces robbery charges.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the 75-year-old victim was attacked around 9:30 a.m. Friday, shortly after he used an ATM in the foyer of Sun National Bank on the 1800 block of Atlantic Ave.

Police say Wiggins knocked the victim down and started going through his pockets.

Another elderly man tried to help the victim by hitting Wiggins with his cane. The man then alerted two bank security guards, who helped detain Wiggins until police arrived.

The victim apparently was not injured in the attack.

It wasn't known Saturday if Wiggins has retained an attorney.
