Philly Detective Who Arrested Mumia Abu-Jamal Dies

The longtime Philadelphia homicide detective credited with arresting convicted officer killer Mumia Abu-Jamal and giving testimony in the Krass brother slayings has died.

Officer Douglas Culbreth was 73.

Culbreth was a Vietnam War veteran who served the Philadelphia Police Department for 30 years before retiring in 1996. The Roxborough man then joined the Defenders Association for another 18 years of service.

He was known as the officer who arrested Abu-Jamal for the 1981 murder of Police Officer Daniel Faulkner.

Culbreath also testified at the trial of the men accused of killing businessmen Stacy and Russell Krass.

Culbreth was survived by his wife Hazel and three children, according to Philly.com.

Funeral plans are pending.
