The number of criminal homicides in Philadelphia is inching higher this year.
A Philadelphia Inquirer report puts the total number at 313, as of 12:01 a.m. Monday. There were 289 homicides during the same time last year.
Adding to this year’s number is the alleged murder of a North Philadelphia woman who police say was stabbed by her housemate early Saturday morning.
According to the Inquirer, 47-year-old Anita McKeithan was stabbed once in the chest inside a rowhouse on the 4400 block of North Franklin Street in the city’s Hunting Park section. The incident allegedly happened following a domestic dispute.
44-year-old Tanya Locks was arrested and charged with murder and possession of an instrument of crime. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 28.
This year’s total includes the 8 alleged victims of a West Philadelphia abortion doctor.
