Lift Operator May Have Free-Fallen

Investigators want to know if he was properly strapped into the bucket

Investigators want to know if the construction worker killed after falling 125 feet was strapped into the bucket of his construction lift properly.

James Wilson, 41, of Franklinville, N.J., was surveying a Philadelphia church Monday when his crane-like machine hit a sidewalk grate that gave way. The lift toppled over, killing Wilson and injuring people on the ground.

Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said Wilson may have free-fallen to the ground.

A co-worker described Wilson as a married father who had worked for the masonry company -- Masonry Preservation Group -- for more than 20 years.
