Courthouse Shooter's Daughter Denied Bail

The daughter of the shooter who killed two women, including his former daughter-in-law, before turning the gun on himself earlier this year at an area courthouse was denied bail this morning.

Amy Gonzalez, 41, is fighting an effort by federal prosecutors to keep her behind bars pending a trial on conspiracy and stalking charges.

A federal judge denied Gonzalez's request Tuesday for bail agreeing with the argument made by federal prosecutors that Gonzalez is a risk to flee the country and that she is a danger to the community including her nieces.

The judge last week postponed the hearing after Gonzalez's attorney said he needed more time to prepare.

Prosecutors say Gonzalez conspired with family members to torment and stalk her former sister-in-law, Christine Belford, following Belford's bitter divorce and custody battle with Gonzalez's brother, former Delaware optometrist David Matusiewicz.

Their father, Thomas Matusiewicz, fatally shot Belford and her friend Laura Mulford on Feb. 11 at the New Castle County Courthouse. He then exchanged gunfire with police before killing himself.

Federal prosecutors plan to try Gonzalez together with David Matusiewicz and their mother Lenore Matusiewicz. No trial date has been set yet in that case as all three remains behind bars.

Gonazlez's lawyers and prosecutors have until Oct. 15 to file motions in the case.
