Police charged a married couple that admitted to putting their newborn baby in a plastic bag and throwing him in a trash dumpster with murder by abuse or neglect.

The decision to charge Dereke Moore, 27, and Jeanne Moore, 28, both of the 900 block of Tamara Drive in Smyrna, Del., with murder came after a criminal and forensic medical investigation, Dover Police said.

Bayhealth Medical Center notified authorities that Jeanne arrived at the hospital Nov. 9 for treatment of vaginal bleeding often associated with recent childbirth.

Jeanne told hospital staff that she gave birth to a stillborn baby early Saturday at her home and her husband then placed the infant in a trash bag and threw it in a dumpster behind the Hampton Inn on Dupont Highway in Dover.

Police found the baby’s body in the dumpster and arrested the Moores. The couple told police the baby was still born.

The Moores have three other children.

The charges of abusing a corpse were elevated last week to murder and endangering the welfare of a child.
