Local Democrats Want Party Leader Gone for Peeing in Public

Some Democrats want the chairman of a southeastern Pennsylvania county party committee to resign after he received a second citation for public urination.

Chairman Brian McGinnis told the Daily Local News of West Chester that he will not step down. He says he has never been arrested and says the urination citation stems from a medical issue that he's dealt with. McGinnis claims the calls for his resignation are part of the many personal attacks he's received from members of the Democratic party since he announced his candidacy for chairman.

"They have fabricated negative stories about me, left offensive voice mails and attacked me and my family personally," McGinnis wrote in a prepared statement. "This began when I announced my candidacy for chairman of the party and, unfortunately, it still continues today."

West Chester lawyer Samuel Stretton, a county committeeman and a former party legal adviser, says the incident is a serious matter for someone in political leadership and McGinnis should resign.

"I believe strongly that when someone acts this way they forfeit their right to hold these kinds of public offices," Stretton told the Daily Local.

McGinnis was cited for the infraction on July 11. He has had brushes with the law before. He was cited for urinating on the courthouse steps in 2005, disorderly conduct in 1998 and 2003, and harassment in 1999.
