Council, Nutter Miles Apart on Tax Policy

The divide between the City Council and Mayor Michael Nutter over the budget is so vast some Council members want to draft their own budget for the mayor to approve, rather than the other way around, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Those Council members favor raising the wage tax rather than the property and sales taxes to close a $1.4 billion deficit. Nutter fears that could cost some their jobs.

At the very least, this is a budget battle that seems a long way from resolution.
