Corbett to Sign Bill Outlawing ‘Bath Salts'

Synthetic drugs will soon be banned in Pennsylvania

So-called bath salts and certain other synthetic drugs will soon be banned in Pennsylvania.

Gov. Tom Corbett planned a Capitol ceremony Thursday to sign legislation making those substances illegal in the state.

Despite their innocent-sounding name the chemicals pack a potent punch. Bath salts sell for as little as $10 in certain stores and on the Internet and authorities say the drug can cause delusional or violent behavior.

The bill will prohibit all chemical substances similar to bath salts as well as synthetic marijuana.

More than 20 states have already banned bath salts. In Pennsylvania, the city of Lock Haven and Centre, Columbia, Schuylkill, Luzerne and Lackawanna counties also have approved bans.
