Cops Arrest Suspect in SEPTA Sex Assault

Joseph Woods was arrested on June 14 thanks to the public's help.

The Philadelphia Police have arrested a suspect in the SEPTA sex assault that occured last month.

Joseph Woods, 41, was arrested on June 14. He was identified after surveillance video was aired on various local newscasts, according to police.

The alleged attack happened on May 26 around 9 p.m. after the 21-year-old victim got off the SEPTA Broad Street Line at Lehigh Avenue. The woman told police that the suspect put a knife against her stomach and forced her into a nearby parking lot then sexually assaulted her.

The victim told authorities she first notice Woods while boarding the train at 63rd and Market Streets and again when she transferred to the Broad Street Line.

Woods, of the 1800-block of Mountain Street, is charged with rape, robbery and other offenses.
