Cop Killer's Cousin Gets Probation

The man accused of driving his cousin, confessed cop killer John “Jordan” Lewis, out of town days after he murdered Philadelphia Police Officer Chuck Cassidy was sentenced to probation Monday.

Common Pleas Court Judge Benjamin Lerner praised Hakim Glover, 26, for his decision to plead guilty and testify against Lewis during his murder trial last month, according to the Inquirer.

"We live in a community and in a larger society where there seems to be more pressure on people in your position to not do the right thing than to do the right thing," Judge Lerner told Glover. "You have a fresh start and so far you have made the most of it."

Glover apologized to the court and his family for helping Lewis elude police in November 2007. He admitted to driving Lewis to a Wilmington, DE bus station and buying him a round-trip ticket to Miami. Lewis boarded the bus and spent three days hiding out in Florida. He was later arrested at a church during a prayer service.

The judge sentenced Glover to 2 to 12 months in prison but was immediately paroled after spending three months in jail, the paper reports.

Glover will remain on parole for the another year and then report for two years of probation.

Glover told the judge during Lewis' murder trial last month he made a mistake by helping his cousin escape but he said he did it to keep Lewis from hurting himself or anyone else.

A jury of eight women and four men voted unanimously to sentence Lewis to death by lethal injection last month for shooting Cassidy in the head as he walked in on Lewis robbing a West Oak Lane Dunkin’ Donuts on Oct. 31, 2007.
