Cop Killer Handed 2nd Sentence in Unrelated Murder

Southern New Jersey man already serving a life term for killing a police officer has received the same sentence in an unrelated slaying.

Ocean County prosecutors say the sentence imposed Friday means 21-year-old Jahmell Crockam will have no chance for parole. He had pleaded guilty in June to murder charges in the October 2010 shooting death of 20-year-old Justin Williams in Lakewood.

The plea came as jury selection was about to start in the case.
 
Prosecutors say Williams was shot five times in the head and once in the chest with a .22 caliber handgun.
 
In February 2012, Crockam was convicted of murdering Patrolman Christopher Matlosz. Prosecutors said Crockam walked up to the officer's police cruiser in January 2011 and shot him three times at point blank range.
 
A massive manhunt involving more than 100 officers from numerous law enforcement agencies arrested Crockam two days later. He was hiding in the apartment of a friend in Camden.
 
A witness in his trial testified Crockam, who had outstanding arrest warrants, vowed he would kill a police officer before he would allow himself to be arrested.
