Cop Injured in Bank Scuffle

A Trenton police officer was injured during a scuffle with a patron of a bank Saturday.

Investigators say Officer Russell Derricot was working at the Wachovia on the corner of South Broad and Liberty streets when he ask Daniel Nemchik to leave the bank after the bank’s manager said he had become unruly.

Nemchik left the bank’s lobby and walked to the drive-in window and demanded service.

When Officer Derricot asked Nemchik to leave the bank’s property, a scuffle ensued causing the officer to fall back and strike his head on the pavement, according to investigators.

Nemchik fled the scene but was later arrested a few blocks away.

Officer Derricot was treated at Capital Health System at Mercer for a cut to the back of the head. He was listed in stable condition.

The suspect was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and attempting to disarm a police officer after attempting to take Officer Derricot’s issued “pepper spray” from his hand.
