Investigators say Officer April Shaynick, 42, got into a car accident back on August 9 at the intersection of Summerdale and Van Kirk Street while she was off-duty. Police say Shaynick left the scene of the crash and then submitted a false accident report. She was later compensated by her insurance company for the damage to her vehicle.

Shaynick was arrested and charged for leaving a scene of an accident, insurance fraud, theft by deception and conspiracy.

Shaynick is a 14-year veteran of the Department and assigned to the 1st District. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended her for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
