NJ Top Cop Busts Himself for Speeding

NJ police boss turns self in, gets speeding ticket

New Jersey's state police superintendent was ticketed for speeding after turning himself in.

Col. Rick Fuentes was traveling northbound in an unmarked state police-issued black SUV on the Garden State Parkway on Friday morning when a trooper stopped him in Paramus, just northwest of New York City.

Fuentes was going 75 mph in a 65 mph zone, State police spokesman Capt. Gerald Lewis said.

The veteran trooper who stopped Fuentes didn't realize he was pulling over another officer and didn't issue a ticket, Lewis said. Fuentes later contacted his department's Office of Professional Standards to report the stop and request a ticket, which will cost him $160, police said.

Fuentes also will receive a written reprimand.
