Constant Soaking Rains a Pain for NJ Farmers

The heavy rains that have soaked New Jersey in recent weeks have hurt the state's agriculture industry yet.

But some farmers could soon face problems if Mother Nature doesn't change her ways.

State officials say this past month was the third wettest June on record, as much of New Jersey saw 3 to 4 inches more rainfall than normal.

Most of New Jersey has a sandy, loamy soil that drains quickly. But heavy rains can create hardships for those in areas with denser, heavier soil.

One concern is that if farmers cannot get in their fields for a few days because of bad weather, it can cause gaps in produce supply that can frustrate farmers and consumers.
