Bullet Hits Bedpost During Philadelphia Shooting

1 man hurt, another rattled as gunfire rings out in Ogontz

A bullet narrowly missed a man asleep in his bed, but critically wounded another in Philadelphia's Ogontz section.

Police found one bullet lodged in the man's bedpost and multiple vehicles sprayed with bullets when they arrived on the scene near North 15th and Conlyn streets around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

A 27-year-old man was shot and taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

A man in bed was lucky not to be shot, police said.

"Police and detectives are recovering the projectile in the bed that just missed the male that was sleeping in the bed by about a foot," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "That individual is extremely lucky, had he been sitting up or if when he heard the gunshots -- which he did -- if he would have got out of bed and looked out his window there's a good possibility he could have been struck by gunfire."

Police took two suspects into custody nearby and recovered two guns possibly thrown from their vehicle, investigators said.
