Commissioner to Announce New Fire Prevention Initiative

The Philadelphia Fire Department says citizens can receive all fire safety and prevention information from their smart phones.

Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers is set to announce the Philadelphia Fire Department’s new Fire Prevention Initiative for 2012.

The Department says this year’s campaign will stress the importance of reaching local residents in need. They also say citizens can receive all fire safety and prevention information from their smart phones.

Commissioner Ayers will also update the Fire Prevention Committee on the progress of a recently awarded FEMA Grant. The $580,000 grant includes 20,000 ten year lithium powered smoke alarms and 200 hearing impaired smoke alarm units.

The meeting will begin with a luncheon at noon at Popi’s Italian Restaurant on the 3200 block of South 20th Street followed by a program at 1 p.m.

Thursday’s meeting comes in the aftermath of two fatal Philadelphia fires.
