Comcast-owned NBCUniversal is planning, along with Chinese investors, to build a new $3.3 billion theme park and resort in Beijing. The project was officially OK’d by Chinese central government, Comcast said in a statement Monday.
The theme park, expected to open in 2019, will mix China’s cultural heritage with NBCUniversal Parks & Resorts’ brand, Comcast said. It also will boast the first Universal-branded hotel, and a Universal CityWalk entertainment complex with retail shops, restaurants and more. More details will be announced at a later date, Comcast said.
The new attraction, which will be jointly owned by Beijing Shouhuan Cultural Tourism Investment Co., will initially span approximately 300 acres, with additional phases slated to cover about 1,000 acres. Read full story here
