'College Possible' Helping Students be 1st in Their Family to Attain Higher Ed

A program to help first-generation college students is receiving a financial boost.

College Possible helps students navigate the pitfalls of higher education when they don't have a family member who knows the ropes.

AmeriCorps volunteer Kira White says the Philadelphia students she coaches for the group amaze her every day.

"My students choose to commit at least two days a week after school for two hours to do SAT preparation, financial literacy workshops," she said. "I don't think that's something I would have done when I was in high school."

The counseling makes the difference, said Wyneshia Foxworth, College Possible executive director.

"Every day, they have an opportunity for one-on-one coaching," she said. "They can ask them any types of questions versus trying to figure it out on their own.

College Possible Philadelphia just received $200,000 thousand from AT&T.
