Coast Guard Rescues Woman After Boat Runs Aground in New Jersey

Coast Guard also rescues man, children after jet ski crash

The Coast Guard has come to the aid of a woman who was injured when a recreational vessel ran aground at the Jersey Shore.

A 29-foot response boat was launched around noon Sunday from the Manasquan Inlet station after officials got a distress call from a good Samaritan. Authorities say the 23-foot center console boat ran aground near the Brielle railroad bridge.

The Coast Guard crew soon found the woman, who had suffered a neck and head injury, and took her back to the station. Her name was not released, and further details on her condition were not disclosed.

It's not yet known what caused the accident.

The Coast Guard was busy Sunday as they medevaced three people injured in a jet ski crash. A man suffered leg injuries and two children suffered shocked when their jet ski allegedly struck an aid to navigation in Atlantic City's Back Bay, said the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard credited regular people for helping them get to the aid of those in need.

"A number of calls this weekend have been reported by good Samaritans," said Lt. Chris Shivock, a command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. "This is a good reminder that everyone on the water can play a key role in the safety of others and why keeping a functional radio or charged cellphone aboard, along with wearing a life jacket and knowing your vessel’s location, can dramatically reduce the time it takes rescuers to get to you in an emergency situation."
