An 83-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease who went missing on Long Beach Island, sparking a water search by Coast Guard officials who feared he may have wandered into the waves, was found safe on land, authorities said.
The agency says the man was found around 8:30 a.m., about seven hours after he went missing, by neighbors near 83rd Street and Long Beach Boulevard on Brighton Beach.
There was no immediate word on his condition.
