Coast Guard Ends Search for Missing Boater

The Coast Guard has ended its search off the waters of Cape May, N.J., for a missing Long Island, N.Y., man whose sailboat was found adrift with no one aboard.

The effort to find 56-year-old Vincent Tangorra of Bethpage was called off Saturday afternoon.

His 37-foot sailboat Polaris was found Friday about nine miles offshore from Avalon.

The search began earlier when a personal watercraft was spotted adrift and the Coast Guard was able to contact the brother of its registered owner.

The brother said Tangorra was using his sailboat to tow the watercraft to North Carolina and that he had reported engine trouble Thursday, the last time they spoke.

The Coast Guard used Tangorra's last cellphone location to find the Polaris.
