City Unions May Strike

Mayor Michael Nutter unveiled his budget earlier this week and it's not sitting well with the city's unions--they might go on strike, some union leaders said.

Leaders of the city's blue and white-collar employee unions said they are "shocked" and "disappointed" with Mayor Michael Nutter's budget proposal.

Dozens protested the plan last week in South Philadelphia.

The budget freezes some wages and calls for workers to pay more for health care and pensions.

The administration is unfairly targeting union workers and has ignored their cost-cutting suggestions, leaders said.

The moves are necessary because the city faces a second $1.4 billion deficit over five years, Mayor Nutter said.
