Cinderblock Hurler Runs From Court, Ends Up in Jail

After running from a Pa. courthouse fearing going back to jail, he ended up there anyway

Police say a man on probation who ran away from a central Pennsylvania courthouse because he feared going back to jail wound up there anyway.

Thirty-one-year-old Ronald Shields, of Altoona, was arrested a short distance from the Blair County Courthouse and jailed on a probation violation Monday. He will also be charged with escape stemming from the unexpected chase.

The Altoona Mirror (http://bit.ly/rFTIye0) says Shields accompanied his girlfriend to a meeting with her probation officer and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Authorities say Shields apparently panicked when he was asked about his arrest on Friday for public drunkenness and ran out of the courthouse.

He's been on probation since 2009 for throwing a cinderblock through the window of a woman's car during an argument.Online court records don't list an attorney for Shields.
