Woman reports what police are calling an attempted rape

A man attempted to rape a woman near Rittenhouse Square early Wednesday morning, according to Philadelphia Police.

The alleged assault happened around 3:25 a.m. in the yard of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on the 1600 block of Locust Street.

A man parked his car and then followed a 31-year-old woman, according to police.

The alleged attacker fondled himself in front of the victim after pulling up her skirt and ripping off her shirt, cops said.

The woman got away and immediately called police reporting the incident. She wasn’t physically hurt.

The alleged attacker fled the scene.

No description was immediately released of the suspect.
