Chicken Sludge Spill Causes Road Closure in Pennsylvania

A busy intersection in Pennsylvania was closed during the morning rush after a spill of "chicken sludge" processed waste from poultry production facilities.

The spill occurred Friday after a Valley Proteins truck had to stop quickly to avoid hitting an ambulance driving through the Lancaster intersection. WPMT-TV reports the hard braking caused some of its load of sludge to spill out onto the road.

According to its website, Valley Proteins provides waste disposal for restaurants and slaughterhouses, along with poultry processing facilities. The company collects and recycles animal processing waste throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

Lancaster police say one lane of traffic had been reopened as of late Friday morning.
