Autopsy Expected in College Student’s Death

A Philadelphia college student died in a campus building Wednesday morning less than a month away from when he was set to graduate.

Medics were called to Chestnut Hill College around 8:45 a.m. for the report of an unresponsive student on a couch in St. Joseph Hall, according to Philadelphia Police.

They found the 22-year-old Chestnut Hill senior not breathing and pronounced him dead at the scene, according to investigators.

The college later identified the student as Bradley Amerman, a business major.

"Our sincere prayers and heartfelt sympathy are extended to the family and friends of Bradley David Amerman and to the Class of 2014," read a statement from college president Sister Carol Jean Vale.

Police remained on the scene throughout Wednesday morning as they tried to figure out what led to Amerman's death. According to law enforcement sources, there were no signs of trauma. An autopsy will be performed on Thursday.

The college held an afternoon gathering to remember Amerman. Staff members and counselors were also available to students at the small liberal arts college.

"I feel really bad for the family and I wish that we could do something," said Chestnut Hill student Elizabeth Raub. "The family will be in my prayers."

The college, which sits on 75 acres of land at the intersection of Northwestern and Germantown Avenue's at the edge of the city's Chestnut Hill neighborhood, has an undergraduate enrollment of about 1,500 students, according to U.S. News statistics.
