Chesco Man Convicted of Murder for Withholding Father's Care

A suburban Philadelphia jury has convicted a man of withholding medical care, resulting in the 2013 death of his 92-year-old father.

Sixty-one-year-old Edward O'Brien III was found guilty on Thursday of third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses.

Prosecutors say O'Brien neglected to renew a prescription to treat the medical condition from which his father, also named Edward O'Brien, died. Authorities say the man was found covered in feces and bed sores.

Defense attorney Joseph Green says his client was following his father's wishes by not forcing medical treatment on him.

This is O'Brien's second trial. A judge declared a mistrial when the first jury deadlocked in February.
