Cherry Hill Marine Killed

Jeremy was a Criminal Justice major at Rutgers University

Three uniformed marines knocked at Melinda Kane’s door to tell her the news no parent who has a child serving in the military ever wants to hear – her 22-year-old Jeremy was killed by a suicide bomb while serving in Afghanistan Saturday.

“The word suicide bomber…it’s not what you think will happen to your son, it’s just not words you expect to hear,” Kane said.

The U.S. Marine Reservist joined the military in 2006 months after graduating from Cherry Hill High School. He was a Criminal Justice major at Rutgers University when he was deployed to service in October.

Jeremy was the oldest of three boys. This is the second recent loss for the Kane family. Jeremy’s father died a year and a half ago of cancer.

Kane said her son was more than a marine and he she wants his legacy to live on.

“He enjoyed life and lived life to the fullest,” Kane said.
